JUNIOR LEAGUE OF PASADENA, INC. ANNOUNCES 6TH ANNUAL BODYWISE CONFERENCE The Junior League of Pasadena, Inc. will hold its 6th annual BodyWise Conference on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Westridge School in Pasadena. The BodyWise Conference is the Junior League of Pasadena, Inc.'s annual one-day nutrition, fitness, and well-being conference for middle school girls and their parents/caregivers. The Junior League of Pasadena, Inc. is committed to ensure that every middle school girl in our community understands her limitless potential and is equipped with the skills necessary to achieve that potential. BodyWise aims to help girls establish a foundation of healthy habits and confidence in body image that will have a positive impact for a lifetime.
The keynote speaker for this year's conference will be Deborah Reber. Debbie has written a number of books for teens, tweens, and even preschoolers, including Chill: Stress-Reducing Techniques for a More Balanced, Peaceful You (Simon Pulse, 2008), In Their Shoes: Extraordinary Women Describe Their Amazing Careers (Simon Pulse, 2007), the teen series from Chicken Soup for the Soul, The Real Deal (HCI, 2005-2006), and more than a dozen Blue’s Clues books. She writes features for magazines including SIX78th and Discovery Girls and shares insights and advice for teen girls through her blog, Smart Girls Know (www.smartgirlsknow.com).
In addition to the keynote speaker, the conference will feature a variety of interactive workshops and discussions on important topics for middle school girls and their parents and caregivers focusing on health, fitness, nutrition, positive body image, peer pressure and more. The exhibit hall will feature demonstrations on topics including fitness, health and community activities. Founded in 1926, the Junior League of Pasadena is a non-profit organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective leadership of trained volunteers. The organization believes that nurturing children through family support builds a stronger community. Past projects have included Madison Elementary School , Kidspace Children's Museum, and the Pasadena Senior Center.
