PASADENA, CA – The Junior League of Pasadena, Inc is honored to host this year’s State Public Affairs Committee Winter Conference. More than forty delegates from the state of California member leagues will convene in conference from March 19-21, 2010 at the Pasadena Hilton. Since 1971, the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) has represented the interests of its member leagues and the groups or issue areas addressed by their projects to policy makers at the state and local levels. The collective voice of this non-partisan group represents more than 11,000 voting women in over 16 communities throughout California. The Junior League of Pasadena, Inc has participated in the California State Public Affairs Committee since its inception in 1971 and hosts the conference every ten years. The non-profit organization of women has a history of advocacy and community involvement in important and significant issues pertaining to women and families. All California State Public Affairs Committee advocacy efforts are targeted to legislation within four focus areas: Health, Family Support, Education and Violence Prevention; which reflect the focus areas of the 16 participating Junior Leagues of California. SPAC’s current advocacy efforts have resulted in Assembly Concurrent Resolution 105 - a measure to deem the month of May as “Healthy Mother’s Month”, by focusing on awareness, education and treatment for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Perinatal Depression. “By bringing the critical issues of mothers’ mental health to the attention of lawmakers, the Junior Leagues of California SPAC hopes to secure a movement that will positively and significantly affect mothers in our community and our society”, stated Marah Lyvers, SPAC Chair of the Junior League of Pasadena. Founded in 1926, the Junior League of Pasadena is a non-profit organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
